Celebrating its 81st year, the Scholarship and Education Committee held its annual award ceremony to honor this year’s scholarship recipients, bringing together parents, grandparents, and students from our membership throughout the United States. Each student’s achievements were highlighted and our top awardees had the honor to speak about their academic careers and their connections to the Sephardic Community. Scholarship recipients also exhibited excellent extracurricular and community engagement, and wrote essays about their commitment to their Sephardic identity and the importance of a vibrant Sephardic Community for a new generation of our members.
In one of the past year’s acceptance speeches, one of our top awardees expressed her gratitude for the honor, and explained how the Sephardic Brotherhood had given her the chance to explore a new, personal narrative. She said, “I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to become a storyteller of the Sephardic Jews, and slowly but surely change the story of my people.”
To our members, please make sure you, your children, or grandchildren apply for a scholarship next year so we may continue to honor los muestros (our own) for their wonderful accomplishments. Si Kere El Dio, our work will continue to empower Sephardic leaders for generations to come.
