We’ve had a packed Spring of activities in NYC. The 8th annual Greek Jewish Festival on the Lower East Side was spectacular as always, with over 10,000 people coming out to celebrate our wonderful community! Our borekas, biscochos, baklava, and Greek salads all sold out, and everyone had a blast with amazing Sephardic and Israeli music in the street! The annual Festival run by our affiliated Synagogue in Manhattan, Kehila Kedosha Janina, was an amazing celebration of all things Romaniote and Sephardic, and was free and open to the public. We also joined as a co-sponsor at the annual Sephardic Jewish Film Festival of New York, which featured fascinating films from across the Sephardic and Middle Eastern experience, including a special closing Greek night for our community at the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan.

For the first time ever, we proudly marched in the Celebrate Israel Parade in New York City on Sunday June 4th with our own specially designed float! This annual parade brings hundreds of thousands of Jews from the NYC Metropolitan area together for a spectacular celebration of all things Israel. We marched up Manhattan’s 5th Avenue from 57th to 73rd Street with our affiliate congregations Kehila Kedosha Janina, the Sephardic Temple of Cedarhurst, Magen David of Manhattan, Etz Ahaim of Highland Park, and many others in the area.
On Sunday June 18th, we have our annual Sephardic Families Picnic in Overpeck County Park in New Jersey, where we’ll have some delicious kosher catered Turkish food, sports and games like water balloon tosses for kids, and a free Sephardic kids book giveaway thanks to our partners at PJ Library. On June 23, we’re organizing a special Brotherhood Shabbaton at our affiliate Congregation Etz Ahaim in Highland Park, New Jersey. The Shabbat will include delicious kosher Turkish foods catered from Bridges Restaurant in New Brunswick and include exciting speakers on all things Sephardic. Check out our website for more info at sephardicbrotherhood.com, and make sure to always check our weekly La Boz Sefaradi - the Sephardic Voice, for all our upcoming local and national events!
