Etz Chaim Sephardic Congregation is re-emerging with new, exciting programming in addition to our daily morning services as well as Shabbat. We began a new program over Zoom to study Sephardic tefillah class every Sunday to help community members better learn our traditions in the synagogue. Additionally, we’ve re-invigorated our search for a new Rabbi for our Sephardic community. Our own Deborah Sisterhood has stepped up with new Oneg Shabbat, as well as delicious Sephardic baking for their Annual Bake Sale. We’ve organized family hikes, bingo nights, and are planning our special Sephardic Passover celebrations and a Mimouna led by the Moroccan members of our community.
Our website (www.etzchaimindy.org) got a major upgrade, and we continue to add content for everyone to enjoy. We have a long and storied history, one that you can learn more about in our new community documentary, “Who We Are: Etz Chaim Sephardic Congregation,” telling the 110-year history of our Sephardic synagogue, including its roots from Salonika and Monastir. You can find it on our YouTube channel.
Our affiliation with the Sephardic Brotherhood is one which we continue to support and which our membership values. We hope to organize a Midwest Sephardic Shabbaton soon with the Brotherhood, and look forward to seeing everyone from our sister communities throughout the country.
