The growing Metro DC chapter of the Ermandad is off to a strong and spirited start in 2024! In February, our young members came together for a beautiful Frutikas Tu B’Shevat Seder, celebrating the New Year of the Trees with a Sephardic twist. The event featured traditional dried fruits, symbolic berahot (blessings), and an opportunity to connect over the shared customs of our diverse Sephardic heritage. Later that month, we hosted our first-ever Young Professionals Happy Hour, a relaxed and engaging evening where new friendships were formed and the foundation for future community-building was laid.

The highlight of the quarter came in late March, when we partnered with the Capital Jewish Museum for an exclusive tour and conversation with the museum’s curator. Attendees of all ages enjoyed a private overview of the museum’s collection, learning about the broader American Jewish experience with a special emphasis on the stories we share as Sephardim. The evening concluded with a light reception featuring delicious Sephardic sweets, continuing the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

With such a meaningful start, we are looking forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead, including with some exciting new Ladino language classes towards the end of the Summer and into the Fall! Stay tuned for more educational, cultural, and social programming for Sephardic Jews across the DC Metro area!
