Sephardic Birthright Trip participants in Israel

Our annual Sephardic Birthright Trip to Israel is back in action after a brief COVID-19 hiatus. Our group this year is having a blast traveling all throughout Israel, rafting down the Jordan River, exploring the Old City in Jerusalem, and hiking Masada. This trip is specifically designed to engage young Greek, Turkish, and Sephardic Jews between 18-26 throughout the US, helping them to explore their Judaism, Israeli society, and their Sephardic identity. We schedule a special tour of Yad VaShem - The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, where we specifically talk with participants about the Sephardic experience in the Holocaust, particularly those from Greece and the Balkans.

Many of our past participants have been grandchildren of Sephardic Holocaust survivors, a powerful connection for our trip. In addition to teaching participants a Hebrew word every day, we also throw in a Ladino word of the day, like Ke Haber (What’s Up) Adio Santo (My Goodness) and Semanada Buena (A Good Week). We have the opportunity to explore the Old City of Jerusalem, visiting the famous Four Sephardic Synagogues Complex and the Bustan Sefaradi - the old Ladino-speaking neighborhood of the city. Participants also get the chance to try some of the delicious and traditional Sephardic foods of Israel, and especially tasty experience.

Make sure to keep an eye out in our weekly digital newsletter, La Boz Sefaradi - the Sephardic Voice, and on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for some exciting trip updates!
